A People-Focused Career Journey
I am a people person and love meeting new people. My background is in education, but I found a job early on in sales. I did that for about six years before I started my family, became a stay-at-home mom where every day was blessed and busy! Free time was filled with church and community volunteer activities.
When my youngest was a senior in high school, the school’s superintendent, who knew about my background in education, hired me as the Director of Admissions. I stayed in that role for 15 years.
I had known Harry Pearson during my time in this role and had worked with him and his family. One day he came to me and said, “I want you to do what you do for the school for me.” He told me he was looking for someone who would really engage people. Someone who would invest time in getting to know people and love on them. I’ve been here ever since!
My Role in the OneAscent Mission
Much of my time is spent client-facing. I get to meet and welcome clients, as well as love on our team here at OneAscent Wealth.
One thing that amazes me about working for OneAscent Wealth is how I see Harry’s vision come to life. When I started, he shared with me his vision of what his office and the business were going to do. I remember thinking, “that’s great to think that big, but that seems crazy. I don’t know how this is going to happen.” But he has a vision and a passion, and look what God can do. It has been amazing to see and far beyond my expectations. I love being a part of this and coming alongside as a helper.
My role is similar to what it has been in the past, but the educational and financial industries are very different. I am still using my gifting to help families, interact with them on a personal level, and serve them. The main difference is that I am spending my time with adults instead of children! But it feels like an easy job because of how much I enjoy what I do.
Developing the OneAscent Wealth Client Experience
I think one of the most important aspects of my role is to make sure that clients feel loved and that our office is warm and welcoming. We also are very intentional about getting to know their families, celebrating with them through weddings, life’s milestones, and walking with them through the loss of a job or loved one. We want them to feel cared for in every aspect of their experience, from when they walk through the door, to when they meet with their advisor, to when they get a phone call just to check in.
Working With OneAscent Wealth
We want everyone who comes into our office to leave with comfort and peace, whether it is about a life situation or a financial goal. Our desire is to coach and encourage.
I think back to an opportunity to show care for a client when he came in, he had two sons that played soccer. His high school senior was excited that he was finally getting to play on the same team with his younger brother, but a career-ending sports injury for the oldest son prevented that from happening and the son was very disappointed. By the time the client came out of his meeting with his advisor, we had a dozen cookies and a gift card for him to take home to his son. It was a small way to say, “Hey, we haven’t forgotten you.”
That’s all we want. To play a part in impacting someone’s life for the better.
